Report shows amphibians in decline

October 17, 2004

I'm a big fan of frogs, and the reason is somewhat strange. I used to work at an amusement park, and I always seemed to be working at the game where you hit the rubber frog into a lily pad. The word got out that I actually lived in the pond, but that wasn't completely accurate; I just took a bath in it every once in awhile.

Find Halloween stuff online

October 15, 2004

If you're like me and wish that one night in October, you could find enough people to reconstruct Michael Jackson's "Thriller" video, you're in luck. No, I don't have email addresses for backup dancers, but I do have a website for your Halloween needs.

HauntedHouse.com contains a national haunted house directory, links for costumes, games and even virtual haunted houses. I've seen a couple of different house directories, but this one seems to contain a larger number than others.

Happy 1,000 visitor, whoever you are

October 12, 2004

Sometime on Oct. 12, the 1,000 unique person made it to my website. I wish I would have had sirens sounding, fireworks exploding and music playing, but I didn't. It was too much work to figure out the exact person anyway.

Now, the 1,000 unique person is a little deceiving. From the way the statistics are displayed, a user is unique every day. That means each day I check to make sure what I posted makes sense, it counts me again.

Time travelers hit the web

October 10, 2004

Recently I was in one of those click-and-conquer moods. You know, where you find something decent to read on a news website, then you see another link, which takes you to something else that looks pretty interesting.

GAC: How to deal with political emails

October 7, 2004

QUESTION

When receiving multiple political emails that you disagree with from a friend, you should tell the person to stop sending them?

NATE: NO

I do not have any friends who send me political e-mails. But, if I did have a friend who did that, I would probably just delete the messages without reading them. I wouldn

American Red Cross, please stop calling me!

April 8, 2011

We're having a blood drive at work today. I unfortunately will not be participating today, or ever again, because the American Red Cross refuses to stop calling me.

This is a strange predicament for me because I've been a fairly loyal donor for about 15 years. But due to the Red Cross' refusal to remove me from its calling list, I'm really not that interested in donating again.

Turning trash into fuel

February 25, 2007

Most people will agree that trash is piling up everywhere. And most people also agree that we need to decrease the amount of fossil fuels used on a routine basis.

Thanks to modern marvels of science, maybe this will be the norm in the future, as scientists at Purdue have developed a portable generator that turns trash into fuel. The "tactical biorefinery," as it's called, can process multiple kinds of waste, which in turn can convert the waste into fuel.

New job

September 5, 2007

If you are wondering why I haven't been updating my site much lately, then you I have two things to tell you:

1. Go to a different website! There are plenty of other things on the Internet.

2. I haven't updated much because I just started a new job at Naviance in Washington, D.C.

Contract inked with nationwide distributor

February 6, 2006

It's official: The Developers has an official distributor. Biblio Distribution, out of Lanham, Md., will handle all distribution of The Developers, effective immediately. OK, it's sort of effective immediately because right now, Biblio doesn't have any books. But I've just ordered a third printing, and the company should have the books at the beginning of March.

Your computer isn't just a fancy paperweight

July 10, 2000

Computers can be your friends. No, they won't take you to lunch or buy you a drink. But they can do more than collect dust. Assuming you are human (and if not, don't let that stop you from reading), you probably fit into one of four categories:

1. You still use a typewriter, you're still building a bomb shelter, and your best friend in grade school was Robert "Robbie" E. Lee.
