Turn all the TVs off with just one button

October 26, 2004

When I originally wrote this, I was also keeping tabs on the St. Louis-Boston World Series game. It's a distraction I can live with, though, because baseball is more important than telling you what's on the web, right?

Then again, if my TV went out, I would be furious because I'm a Boston fan. But if it were the Yankees playing the Astros, and if the TV went off, I probably wouldn't care.

Yet another Microsoft update

October 24, 2004

Hopefully this is old news for you, but Microsoft on Oct. 12 announced 10 security advisories, which corrects 22 new flaws within its operating system and products. If you haven't updated your computer yet, click here to read the details.

Celebrate something every day

October 21, 2004

The holiday season is upon us again. Then again, what if every season, or even every day, was the holiday season?

Meeting online people without photos

October 20, 2004

If you think about it, you come into contact with new people every day. So why do people act differently if you meet someone online versus in person?

GAC: Meeting online people without photos

October 20, 2004

QUESTION

Would you meet someone you met or chatted with online, even if you had never seen a picture of the person?

BEN: NO

New U.S. government 'transparent' sites

July 2, 2009

Where do your tax dollars go? What data is being collected in this country anyway? Previously, these were difficult questions to answer, but the new administration appears to be making headway toward real answers.

Everyone's playing electronic solitaire except me

May 24, 2008

Back in the early '90s, during the golden age of desktop computing (I chose golden only because neither bronze nor ice seemed appropriate), there weren't a ton of games around that were easily accessible. Sure, you could purchase real games at the computer store, or you could borrow your friend's floppy disks for more enjoyment. You could play solitaire or Minesweeper, perhaps even Tetris, and you could switch screens relatively fast to pretend to be working.

Google Fight is interesting, at least for 17 seconds

February 9, 2006

Everyone these days is interested in whether or not their sites are listed in Google. OK, maybe it's just me, a handful of companies and search engine optimization people. Nevertheless, there's a simple way to find out how search keywords compare to one another. At Google Fight, you have the ability to compare two sets of search terms and see which one has more results.

Kung-Fu your way to presidency

January 5, 2008

It's election time again, and this is a big one. I'm not just talking about the Big Mac/Whopper taste test (Who won that vote anyway?). Americans will elect a new president in 2008, and the caucuses have already begun. But there's another way that you, a citizen of the United Internets of the Galaxy, can participate.

Book review: The "Harry Potter" series

July 1, 2008

I may have been the last person on earth to pick up any of the "Harry Potter" books, but I'm pretty certain I wasn't the last one finished. It's amazing to me the number of people who have at least read book one, let alone the number who have actually finished the series.
