Is it ever appropriate to use profanities in an email?

December 6, 2004

It's hard to ever say never, especially when it comes to email. The advice committee decided 4-1 that while cussing online isn't necessarily a good thing, it can come in handy every once in awhile. Click here to read the final opinions.

If you need advice about something, and you, too, think many mainstream columnists don't understand today's world, email the Good Advice Committee. Surely we'll come up with something you can use to justify your position ... there's five of us!

GAC: Is it ever appropriate to use profanities in an email?

December 6, 2004

QUESTION

Is it ever appropriate to use profanities in an email?

LAEL: YES

It's okay by my standards to use profanities in email to people that you would normally say profantities when speaking. However, you should becareful not to tell grandma to kick @ss in tomorrow's bingo tournament ... As with all things email related, you should be careful what you write because you never know who is going to see it.

AMANDA: YES

Analyzing recreated events can be a good thing, even in JFK game

December 3, 2004

I'm not going to jump on the bandwagon and say the new video game JFK Reloaded is a disgrace. More importantly, a game like this could revolutionize our way of regarding historical events.

Amazingly, Hawaii and basketball do mix

November 29, 2004

I have returned. Oh yeah, you probably didn't even know I was gone. I took a little vacation to Hawaii for snorkeling and a basketball tournament. Although there were many high profile people there in the stands

More domain names coming your way

November 24, 2004

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers has added .post and .travel to its list of allowable domain names. Businesses and groups apparently will have the right to apply for these domain names soon, it's not quite clear just when someone would expect to actually see them live on the web. For more information about the additions, read a recent USA Today story about it.

Good prequels

May 24, 1999

"Star Wars" has been in theaters for two days now. Is anyone still counting? Die-hard fans have probably already memorized the movie and are currently petitioning for title roles in the next installment.

The rest of us, "Star Wars" fans or not, have moved on with our lives. The movie was good, the special effects and sound were excellent, but there are other things to do, like clean the bathroom or raise porcupines.

First appearance on the radio Friday morning

February 7, 2006

If you can get to a radio at 8 a.m. Friday morning, be sure to tune into 99.7 WDJX in Louisville. I will be on with Kelly K. talking briefly about "The Developers" and Sunday's book signing at Carmichael's on Frankfort Ave.

Kelly K graduated from Purdue, as I did myself, so we're going to turn Louisville briefly into Boilermaker country.

OK, maybe it will last like 41 seconds, but that's better than nothing.

March Madness = "The Developers" on the Kindle sale!

March 11, 2010

For no reason whatsoever, I've decided to over "The Developers" for a buck on the Kindle this month. I tried to offer it free, but the lowest I could go was a dollar. Anyway, if you have a Kindle, check it out!

Book available first at Louisville's Carmichael's

May 16, 2005

The Developers can now be purchased at Carmichael's Bookstore, Louisville's oldest independent bookstore. The store has two locations: 2720 Frankfort Avenue and 1295 Bardstown Road.

Finding the candidate who knows education the best

February 8, 2008

With the multitude of problems facing education in America today, it's oftentimes difficult to even consider that anything will ever be resolved. However, there is one thing afforded to U.S. citizens that can give educators hope: the ability to vote. With the presidential primaries in full swing, and the general election coming up in the fall, here's a quick rundown of where each major candidate stands:

Democrats

Hillary Clinton
