The domain that takes about an hour to type

November 22, 2004

I don't recall exactly how I found this, but the longest single word domain (without hyphens) is llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch.com. If you don't believe me, click on the name and it will tell you as much.

Being Bill Gates has its drawbacks

November 19, 2004

Maybe it's nice to be the wealthiest person in the world. I guess it would be nice to have a full-time maid or someone to butter a piece of toast for me, if that's what rich people do these days. But you may want to think again about being rich when you hear the number of spam messages that Bill Gates gets every day.

Correct your grammer, er, grammar

November 16, 2004

Although grammar, spelling and punctuation appears to be optional these days, particularly on the web, it definitely doesn't hurt to at least know the rules of the English language. At best, it might help you find a better job. At worst, you can always hold the grammar card in your back pocket, in life-threatening situations (yeah, he might have a new truck, but does he know the difference between your and you're?).

Maybe AOL is now run by just computers

November 12, 2004

Why do so many people use AOL? Do they think that's the only Internet Service Provider in existence? Are they entranced by receiving CDs in the mail, thinking if they just join, they won't receive them anymore? Is that little yellow guy, who apparently is always running to find his face, which happens to be the Wal-Mart logo, just too cool to pass up?

Be careful, your domain name might be transferred

November 10, 2004

Transferring any domain to your own control is about to be come a breeze. Or maybe not.

Starting Nov. 12, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) began utilizing a new Policy on Transfer of Registrations between Registrars. The policy states that if there is a request made on a domain by someone, and if that request has not been denied within five days, the registrar will be allowed to reward the domain to the requesting party.

One Web. One World. One Wish.

September 22, 2006

How has the web changed your life? That's the question that users around the world are answering today to celebrate OneWebDay.

First off, who would have thought to combine capitalized words, minus the spaces, for the name of something anyway? Yes, it was used before the Internet for various things, including the names of racehorses. OneWebDay, even the word form itself, has become something due to this rapidly advancing form of technology.

Keep from hitting the snooze button with a moving alarm clock

March 27, 2005

I've never been much of a snooze bar pusher, but I can't say the same for some of my college roommates. I never understood why they would purposely set their alarms early and then be awakened six or seven times before actually waking up. That's more than an hour's worth of sleep lost to, in my opinion, just being lazy.

Make new friends by renting them

July 9, 2010

The definition of "friend" has been watered down a bit with the advent of online social networking. It seems that now, your friend might be someone with whom you've never met, even someone with whom you've never communicated, with the exception of a simple button click on a website. This can be a good way to meet people, but it's a bit weird to call a person a friend when it's quite possible the individual on the other side could be an enemy, a fish or a hat.

Video games meant to be played, just not all at once

June 15, 2003

I thought I had finally recovered from my addiction, but it has come back

to haunt me. Luckily, I am able to handle it through indulging for short periods

of time, and it mysteriously goes away, almost as fast as

it hit me.

Yes, you guessed it. The addiction is video games. Another good way

for me to stay away from video games is to just be so freakin' busy that

I don't have

time to play. But I have to make time for Circus

"Springer" a synomyn for violence

June 1, 1999

Some people eat peanut butter sandwiches without the jelly. Others think Cher was better without Sonny.

But "The Jerry Springer Show" without fights? Could that be possible?
