Report shows amphibians in decline

October 17, 2004

I'm a big fan of frogs, and the reason is somewhat strange. I used to work at an amusement park, and I always seemed to be working at the game where you hit the rubber frog into a lily pad. The word got out that I actually lived in the pond, but that wasn't completely accurate; I just took a bath in it every once in awhile.

Find Halloween stuff online

October 15, 2004

If you're like me and wish that one night in October, you could find enough people to reconstruct Michael Jackson's "Thriller" video, you're in luck. No, I don't have email addresses for backup dancers, but I do have a website for your Halloween needs.

HauntedHouse.com contains a national haunted house directory, links for costumes, games and even virtual haunted houses. I've seen a couple of different house directories, but this one seems to contain a larger number than others.

Happy 1,000 visitor, whoever you are

October 12, 2004

Sometime on Oct. 12, the 1,000 unique person made it to my website. I wish I would have had sirens sounding, fireworks exploding and music playing, but I didn't. It was too much work to figure out the exact person anyway.

Now, the 1,000 unique person is a little deceiving. From the way the statistics are displayed, a user is unique every day. That means each day I check to make sure what I posted makes sense, it counts me again.

Time travelers hit the web

October 10, 2004

Recently I was in one of those click-and-conquer moods. You know, where you find something decent to read on a news website, then you see another link, which takes you to something else that looks pretty interesting.

GAC: How to deal with political emails

October 7, 2004

QUESTION

When receiving multiple political emails that you disagree with from a friend, you should tell the person to stop sending them?

NATE: NO

I do not have any friends who send me political e-mails. But, if I did have a friend who did that, I would probably just delete the messages without reading them. I wouldn

Best PowerPoint presentation ever

November 3, 2006

It's difficult to imagine life before Microsoft PowerPoint, right? I mean, how would ANYONE be able to get his/her point across to the masses without the use of slideshows, silly graphics and amazing colored boxes?

This is exactly why even Abraham Lincoln prepared his famous Gettysburg Address using PowerPoint. Don't believe it? Take a look here.

Everything I've learned writing this column

July 9, 2001

1. Almost half of the people who answered my first survey use the Internet trying to learn more about computers and stuff. I hope this column has also helped you learn a little as well.

2. Porn sites are updated daily, but the World Badminton page may never be updated again.

Windowless? Let Web sites control the weather

April 16, 2001

It's a good thing there are Internet weather sites. Yes, it's beneficial for travelers to know if it's going to be nice at their destination. It's great to know if a large snowfall is coming, so everyone but bartenders can be off work. You can even check out the weather where all your friends live.

Don't forget to update your machine

July 21, 2003

I hope you made it to my column today in one piece.

Surely there was no traffic on the trip to work, no wrecks to get in your way and no coffee to spill on that new "Dukes of Hazzard" tie your grandmother gave you for Christmas. Just like any other day, I bet you walked into your office or computer room, started up your computer and immediately accessed the Web, right?

Junk email: from you, to you

August 16, 2004

I hope you're not one of the many people who has experienced receiving a piece of junk email from (gulp!) yourself.

The good news is that it's probably not your fault. The bad news is someone you know probably has an infected computer.

Many computer viruses going around multiply themselves by grabbing a person's address book and sending emails out to many of the addresses.
