More domain names coming your way

November 24, 2004

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers has added .post and .travel to its list of allowable domain names. Businesses and groups apparently will have the right to apply for these domain names soon, it's not quite clear just when someone would expect to actually see them live on the web. For more information about the additions, read a recent USA Today story about it.

The domain that takes about an hour to type

November 22, 2004

I don't recall exactly how I found this, but the longest single word domain (without hyphens) is llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch.com. If you don't believe me, click on the name and it will tell you as much.

Being Bill Gates has its drawbacks

November 19, 2004

Maybe it's nice to be the wealthiest person in the world. I guess it would be nice to have a full-time maid or someone to butter a piece of toast for me, if that's what rich people do these days. But you may want to think again about being rich when you hear the number of spam messages that Bill Gates gets every day.

Correct your grammer, er, grammar

November 16, 2004

Although grammar, spelling and punctuation appears to be optional these days, particularly on the web, it definitely doesn't hurt to at least know the rules of the English language. At best, it might help you find a better job. At worst, you can always hold the grammar card in your back pocket, in life-threatening situations (yeah, he might have a new truck, but does he know the difference between your and you're?).

Maybe AOL is now run by just computers

November 12, 2004

Why do so many people use AOL? Do they think that's the only Internet Service Provider in existence? Are they entranced by receiving CDs in the mail, thinking if they just join, they won't receive them anymore? Is that little yellow guy, who apparently is always running to find his face, which happens to be the Wal-Mart logo, just too cool to pass up?

This is just annoying

September 28, 2004

What do the PGA Tour, "Full House," Michael Jackson and the IRS have in common? I mean, besides the obvious, that Bob Saget is the president of each of their fan clubs? If you said they all made the AmIAnnoying.com Most Annoying list, you were right, but you probably also peeked to figure that out.

Thanks to Baltimore, no thanks to the rain

September 8, 2006

I just wanted to give a shout out to all of the people who stopped by the Inner Harbor Barnes & Noble in Baltimore on Sept. 1. The rain started Friday morning and didn't stop until sometime Saturday, producing more than 4 inches in the city. Instead of drowning, however, I sold a couple of books and met people from all over the country, and a few from distant lands.

Hate mail for a humor columnist is funny

September 19, 2004

I received an email from Morgan a couple of weeks ago, wondering why I was posing as a global warming expert. The funny thing is, I don't ever recall mentioning I was a global warming expert, although I did write a column about it.

Baseball stats since just after the Civil War available

April 15, 2006

It's springtime, and baseball season, the best season of the year, has begun once again. It's too early to tell who will make it to the playoffs, but it is clear that no team will win all of its games or lose all of its games. In fact, the Mets have the best record at this stage, but without Doc Gooden and Darryl Strawberry, it's hard to see them in the World Series.

Take a break, paint and dance!

July 12, 2007

It's late in the week. You are probably fretting even starting work today. Sounds to me like you need a little break. What I'm about to show you may mystify or confuse you. But remember, it's for your own good.

Time to visit ROXIK | PICTAPS. If you click on the "Paint!" button, you will have the ability to create an avatar that dances. Or, you can just watch some of the samples the site already has available. Regardless, make sure to turn up the music as load as possible.
