Turtle in a hurry to cross Atlantic

Leading to the belief that even reptiles can spot amazing discount store sales, Fisher, a loggerhead turtle, has trekked over 4,000 miles in since July and should reach west Africa in the near future. There's no word just yet as to whether or not the sale will take place at a Wal-Mart or Kmart.

Fisher was released off the North Carolina coast and is being tracked by a satellite transmitter. The Marine Turtle Research Group is tracking him, and you can see the updates at Seaturtle.org.

Start preparing for the next Y2K

Just when you think computers will finally stop complaining about the Gregorian calendar, it appears there are numerous problems just waiting to happen.

We have only 34 years until the Y2038 bug finally finds us. It's hard to say right now how big the bug will be, but I'm guessing somewhere between a mosquito and a giant praying mantis.

More flaws available for Internet Explorer

Every browser has its good and bad moments, but it's sure seems like most moments are bad for Internet Explorer. Recently it was announced that people using IE 6 were vulnerable, even if Windows XP Service Pack Two is installed.

Microsoft reported one of these flaws last year, but there are still no patches for these flaws, which are described as "extremely critical" ones.

Updated Performance Against Seed Expectations

Some of you are probably familiar with the Performance Against Seed Expectations (PASE) metric used with the men's tournament brackets. In short, the metric takes into account how many games a seed is expected to win based on past performances since 1985 (the first year of the 64-team tournament). I've never been much of a snooze bar pusher, but I can't say the same for some of my college roommates. I never understood why they would purposely set their alarms early and then be awakened six or seven times before actually waking up. That's more than an hour's worth of sleep lost to, in my opinion, just being lazy.

Be careful, your domain name might be transferred

Transferring any domain to your own control is about to be come a breeze. Or maybe not.

Starting Nov. 12, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) began utilizing a new Policy on Transfer of Registrations between Registrars. The policy states that if there is a request made on a domain by someone, and if that request has not been denied within five days, the registrar will be allowed to reward the domain to the requesting party.
