From the Why on Earth Department, Chris McAvoy of the Linux Journal has written a Unix computer program to feed his cats.
Yes, you read that right. The computer feeds the cats. I do like to kid around a lot, but this time, I'm not kidding. Here's the article to prove it.
Seen as a move that might lead other newspaper chains to do the same, The New York Times acquired About.com for about $410 million, as reported in this Reuters article. This also comes on the heels of the Dow Jones & Co. Inc. deal to purchase the website MarketWatch Inc. as well.
It was a simple idea: Go to the store, grab a bag of circus peanuts for a friend and be on my way. After wandering aimlessly through three stores, though, I learned that even the greatest tasty snacks can disappear all too quickly.
Terry, an innocent bystander until he read one of my columns and emailed me, sent me a pretty good take on the prequel to the Y2K Bug, which, of course, is the Y1K Bug. It took me awhile to find the original author (remember, taking more than a minute to find anything on the Internet is way too long), but I finally did.

Seriously, I doubt that's why the University of Calgary is offering a course in how to create email spam and spyware. A lot of people will think that, but there are valid reasons to have a class like this.
It's bad enough when you can't win a simple game of cards with your family. But when you're a poker champion and have to play against multiple bots colluding against you, well, it's time to take up something else, maybe shuffleboard.

I thought that maybe fewer people would drive since gas seems to be more expensive than an average vehicle. But I'm still waiting in traffic all over the place, on the way to and from work. Hasn't it occurred to anyone that we are all paying close to twice as much for gasoline as we did a year ago? Wouldn't they be interested in knowing how to conserve their fuel?

I realized this a couple years ago, after the fourth column, but now I'm running
out of things that I've even heard of. So instead of ranting and raving about
the commercialization of Valentine's Day or the plight of the American economy
or the Canadian women's curling team or the combination of the three, I decided
to dive deeper into the topic of forms.
The time has come again to actually make a difference in the outlook for your city, county, state and country. Will you be an active participant this time around?
Sure, one vote may not mean much. But if everyone used the same philosophy, no one would vote, except perhaps the candidates and a few random people who vote Mickey Mouse every year. While it would be nice to have streets made out of cheese, do you really want a mouse running the house?
