No joke, some octopi can walk on two arms

March 31, 2005

In what appears to defy the laws of nature, an octopus has been videotaped taking a leisurely stroll along the ocean floor in Indonesia.

"I do this all the time," the octopus said. "What's funny is I recently showed my friends a videotape of people walking on two legs. They were stunned."

AOL not using your instant messages against you ... yet

March 29, 2005

There was a bit of a buzz recently when America Online changed its instant messenging Terms of Service. The change seems to state that AOL is allowed to use anything posted by users whenever it sees fit. Which, of course, means that if you told a buddy "AOL sucks!" while on AIM, you could be in big trouble and possibly be forced to sit in the back row of a Village People concert.

Keep from hitting the snooze button with a moving alarm clock

March 27, 2005

I've never been much of a snooze bar pusher, but I can't say the same for some of my college roommates. I never understood why they would purposely set their alarms early and then be awakened six or seven times before actually waking up. That's more than an hour's worth of sleep lost to, in my opinion, just being lazy.

I almost forgot about the memory tournament

March 25, 2005

In case you missed it (or somehow, didn't even know it existed), the Eighth Annual USA Memory Championship was held March 12. Ram Kolli, a 24-year-old computer science student at Virginia Tech, placed first and now has the opportunity to compete in the World Memory Championship in London on August 13-15.

Hate sites that apparently don't suck

March 23, 2005

Not all people troll the Internet looking for happy things like puppies, flowers and pot pies. While you could certainly find them, they are not nearly as easy to find as corporate hate sites. Maybe hate is a strong word ... then again, after checking out some of them, hate is pretty mild. "Loathe" and "personal vendetta" come to mind when describing them.

New stalking, er, tracking, er, technology tool

February 5, 2009

Google recently announced a new product available for a number of cell phone devices called Google Latitude. The program allows you to see other people, assuming they have opted into the system, on a Google-generated map.

Time travelers hit the web

October 10, 2004

Recently I was in one of those click-and-conquer moods. You know, where you find something decent to read on a news website, then you see another link, which takes you to something else that looks pretty interesting.

Dude, you can recycle now

November 28, 2006

If your old Dell computers are starting to stack up in the corner of your home, you can actually do something about it now. No, I don't suggest dropping them off skyscrappers. They are computers, not pumpkins!

Dell recently announced that the company is offering a free recycling service for its used computers.. The best part about it is that it's free! You can schedule the pickup right on Dell's website.
