I received the first shipment of The Developers Thursday, so now begins the FUN task of making people read it. Fortunately for you, the potential reader, I've misplaced my torture devices, at least for the time being.
Apparently, no actual time travelers showed up at the Massachusetts Institiute of Technology's recent time traveler convention. It's hard to tell, though whether or not that means there are no time travelers, they were warned not to show or they just got the time wrong.
Wondering where all that spam is coming from? There's a good chance it's coming from the south Florida.
Spamhaus, an international non-profit organization whose mission is to track spam, noted that about a quarter of the 180 spammers the company tracks are from Florida, as reported by Florida's Sun-Sentinel. The city with the most spammers in the world is Boco Raton.
Just when you thought you understood something as simple as concrete, it has now been changed.
Researchers at the University of Michigan have developed bendable concrete, which according to an article on the university's news service, is 500 times more resistant to cracking and 40 percent lighter in weight.
I've been told by my publisher that my book, "The Developers," a book about ... hmm, not much of anything, is almost ready. It is due to be finished May 10. I'm currently busy trying to prepare a few things and make contacts for the books. Thanks to everyone who sent along condolences for my grandma. I wanted to post the eulogy I gave at the funeral to show our gratitude for her life.
For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Ben, and I am Tiny’s oldest grandson. Despite being her oldest grandson, I sort of felt sometimes that she thought of me as her son. But maybe that’s just because she frequently called me Doug or Rusty.
Boy it's hot outside. That's why I'm inside now. People keep talking about beating the heat. You've got to be kidding. You couldn't even beat the heat with a large frying pan. To avoid one silly cliché, I've decided to live by another — if you can't beat it, join it. Here's a short list of things to do to join the heat:
Start a fire — You can burn a lot faster, and burn a lot more for that matter. The folks at Woodstock 99 decided to light a few bonfires, loot shops and get really, really angry. Unfortunately, Willie Nelson escaped with few burns.
I'll be heading back to familiar territory this weekend as I host a book talk in Crawfordsville, Ind., at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Crawfordsville Public Library. A little later in the day (3 p.m. CST), I'll be at the Champaign, Ill., Borders.
I lived in Crawfordsville in 1998-99, working at the Journal Review during my time there. I will be discussing writing and publishing at the library, as well as explaining the process of putting together my novel, The Developers.
Perform a Google news search on "olympic gymnastics controversy" and you'll notice 1,230 articles (at least, at this point) pertaining to what seems to be evolving into a silly event.
I don't want to take away the athleticism of the participants. They do things that not even the best breakdancer, which is what I want to be when I grow up, cannot do. But the reward for their efforts is a couple of judges apparently randomly giving out scores. One time, I think I saw the South Korean judge with a Scantron, trying to create a flag pattern with his scoring.
For those interested, I completed the rough draft of my book last night. Thankfully, the ending makes sense, although there is plenty of editing left to do. Once I get through that first round, I plan to post some samples on this site, as well as asking a few people to read through the manuscript.
Also, I'm in the process of finding a literary agent, who will then help me select the correct book publisher. There are a lot of options, so hopefully my research will pay off. I'll furnish more information from time to time as I figure out exactly what to do with the book.
