Why do so many people use AOL? Do they think that's the only Internet Service Provider in existence? Are they entranced by receiving CDs in the mail, thinking if they just join, they won't receive them anymore? Is that little yellow guy, who apparently is always running to find his face, which happens to be the Wal-Mart logo, just too cool to pass up?
Transferring any domain to your own control is about to be come a breeze. Or maybe not.
Starting Nov. 12, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) began utilizing a new Policy on Transfer of Registrations between Registrars. The policy states that if there is a request made on a domain by someone, and if that request has not been denied within five days, the registrar will be allowed to reward the domain to the requesting party.
I don't think there is an official group named FOFDP (fans of fake Dr Pepper), but after viewing the Faked Dr Pepper website, I'm concerned that there isn't.
Who would have known there are more than 100 versions of the Waco, Texas, soft drink? This site contains a collection of the drinks and a simple taste rating, from Dr. Riffic (five Dr Pepper cans) to Dr. Rush (described as "taking a handful of grass and dirt and drinking it").

Do you think it's a good idea to have music playing in the background on a website?
AMANDA: YES
I haven't seen any exact data on this, because I'm not even sure it's available, but I'm guessing perhaps one in eight websites have background music playing on them. While some sites use the music to promote a musician's new release, others apparently prefer to remind you of standing in an elevator for an infinite amount of time.
I thought of a new way to determine how many people
actually were reading my column: I decided to hand out
chocolate to everyone who visited any of the four Web
sites that carry me.
Unfortunately, logistics won't allow that, plus I don't
have any chocolate; I ate it all. Instead, I thought
we would discuss music file types and get your opinion
on music taste while we're at it.
I agree with Erin that the Faber College discussion has been interesting, to say the least. In a lot of ways, it reminds of how some things get "accomplished" at work. With so many individuals attempting to offer opinions on things, it's extremely difficult to put a reasonable plan in motion. I understand this is an open forum, and the talking heads for each group will come up with a more organized game plan. Students, faculty, and administrators are all making insightful comments.
There was a bit of a buzz recently when America Online changed its instant messenging Terms of Service. The change seems to state that AOL is allowed to use anything posted by users whenever it sees fit. Which, of course, means that if you told a buddy "AOL sucks!" while on AIM, you could be in big trouble and possibly be forced to sit in the back row of a Village People concert.
I'm becoming rather disappointed in the Internet's search engines. The other day, I couldn't find my keys, and neither could any of them.
Corporate Ties has been available at any Barnes and Noble location for a while (although not necessarily stocked in the store). The good news is that Carmichael's, Louisville's oldest independent bookstore, now has copies at both of its locations.
