GAC: How to deal with political emails

October 7, 2004

QUESTION

When receiving multiple political emails that you disagree with from a friend, you should tell the person to stop sending them?

NATE: NO

I do not have any friends who send me political e-mails. But, if I did have a friend who did that, I would probably just delete the messages without reading them. I wouldn

The headline I thought I'd never write: People are LESS crazy

October 6, 2004

See that guy in the office next to you? He might be crazy, but he's not quite as crazy as he was a few years ago.

According to my extremely scientific Ultimate Crazy Survey, readers have decreased their craziness by almost three points, from 37 to 34.3. These results were determined by taking the square root of each participant's name, converted into ASCII values, multiplied by a factorial of Avogadro's Number, depending on what time zone you live in. Or maybe it was just by taking point totals from each question, I cannot remember.

What to do about those political emails from the other side

October 5, 2004

I've been fortunate enough to not receive too many political emails, and virtually none that made me angry toward one side or another. But I know these emails are circulating everywhere, so I'm going to be on guard for the rest of the election.

I'll just fill up my bottle at the water fountain, thank you

Coca-Cola has been treading in deep waters the last few months.

In March, the United Kingdom version of Dasani, the company's brand of bottled water, was found to just be tap water. And just a few weeks later, the drink was found to have a higher level of bromate, a cancer-causing chemical, than legally allowed.

If you cannot believe your email, at least believe this

October 1, 2004

There's a lot of talk about truth going around these days. Not that it is any different than any other period of mankind's history, at least after truth was invented. It's mildly interesting to imagine how truth started.

"Me kill buffalo! Me eat buffalo!"

"No, me kill buffalo! You don't eat buffalo!"

"No, me kill buffalo!"

This surely ended with one caveman eating the buffalo, and the other grabbing a Happy Meal at McDonald's.

Join me on Saturday, Jan. 21, to check "The Developers" and book signing event. I will be at the Evansville Borders (6401 East Lloyd Expressway) 12-2 p.m. and at Owensboro's Beyond the Brim (Wesleyan Park Plaza) 4-6 p.m. The book is currently available at these locations, as well as other regional bookstores and Amazon.com. It is also now available through Baker & Taylor, a national distributor.

Online library checking in

December 14, 2004

Google, never to turn away from indexing searchable material, is working with leading world libraries to catalog a ridiculous number of books.

Harvard, Stanford and Michigan university libraries, the New York Public Library and the Oxford Bodleian Library are lending their books to be scanned into the Google Print project. Melvil Dewey, the inventor of the Dewey Decimal System, could not be reached for comment.

'Corporate Ties' rewrites completed

August 7, 2009

I've made a few adjustments to my new book, "Corporate Ties." While almost completely factually accurate, I have decided to change the names of most of the people involved with the story. Because a few years have passed since the happenings, I think I can be a little more open with people's responses to certain things that occurred. The story line involves following a few individuals through a corporate relocation/layoff process, mixed in with a love story and a large amount of shenanigans. I'm hoping to have the first copies out by Christmas, if plans go accordingly!

STAR WARS ALERT

May 18, 2005

The movie is officially out. Move along and see it.

If you're in China, you might not be able to read this

September 25, 2005

Many people in Western culture are starting to take search engines for granted. I'm not talking about just having a computer and having access to the Internet. I'm speaking of what you can and cannot find in some of the top engines themselves.
