GAC: How to deal with political emails

October 7, 2004

QUESTION

When receiving multiple political emails that you disagree with from a friend, you should tell the person to stop sending them?

NATE: NO

I do not have any friends who send me political e-mails. But, if I did have a friend who did that, I would probably just delete the messages without reading them. I wouldn

The headline I thought I'd never write: People are LESS crazy

October 6, 2004

See that guy in the office next to you? He might be crazy, but he's not quite as crazy as he was a few years ago.

According to my extremely scientific Ultimate Crazy Survey, readers have decreased their craziness by almost three points, from 37 to 34.3. These results were determined by taking the square root of each participant's name, converted into ASCII values, multiplied by a factorial of Avogadro's Number, depending on what time zone you live in. Or maybe it was just by taking point totals from each question, I cannot remember.

What to do about those political emails from the other side

October 5, 2004

I've been fortunate enough to not receive too many political emails, and virtually none that made me angry toward one side or another. But I know these emails are circulating everywhere, so I'm going to be on guard for the rest of the election.

I'll just fill up my bottle at the water fountain, thank you

Coca-Cola has been treading in deep waters the last few months.

In March, the United Kingdom version of Dasani, the company's brand of bottled water, was found to just be tap water. And just a few weeks later, the drink was found to have a higher level of bromate, a cancer-causing chemical, than legally allowed.

If you cannot believe your email, at least believe this

There's a lot of talk about truth going around these days. Not that it is any different than any other period of mankind's history, at least after truth was invented. It's mildly interesting to imagine how truth started.

"Me kill buffalo! Me eat buffalo!"

"No, me kill buffalo! You don't eat buffalo!"

"No, me kill buffalo!"

This surely ended with one caveman eating the buffalo, and the other grabbing a Happy Meal at McDonald's.

Proper Netiquette includes reading this column

May 27, 2002

As I agonize about writing this opening paragraph,

I wonder what type of people read this column. I mean,

are they reading this while they chew gum with their

mouths wide open, are they chewing their toenails or,

worse yet, are they putting gum between their toes?

OK, I really wasn't thinking about that, I was wondering

how much Dr Pepper I could drink. But this brings up

It's not perfect, but what is?

If you have seen The Developers, maybe you passed over the copyright page, which contains random stuff that every book has. The ISBN is listed, as well as the publisher and a note that explains the book is fiction. Also nestled into this page is a little note that says "To help debug future versions of this book, please send corrections and comments to info@benwoods.com."

Luckily, some people have read this and have sent me minor errors they spotted in the book. I will list them here.

Three new locations in three different states now carrying 'The Developers'

November 8, 2005

Borders stores in Champaign, Ill., Evansville, Ind., and Poor Richard's Books in Frankfort, Ky., are now selling "The Developers." Well, I should say I'm assuming they are selling the books, as long as the shipments made it there and they aren't sitting in the back of the store somewhere.

If you happen to live in one of these areas and are ready to read the book, here's the information you need:

Champaign (Ill.) Borders Bookstore

802 West Town Center Boulevard

Champaign, IL 61822

'The Developers' listed with major distributor

December 27, 2005

Baker & Taylor, a book distributor with service centers located throughout the United States, is now listing "The Developers" for retail.

For over 176 years, Baker & Taylor has been providing quality information and entertainment services. The company is a worldwide distributor of books, video, music and games.

Comcast possibly filtering some domains

October 13, 2008

This morning, I was having issues accessing certain news sites that I always visit, including the Louisville (Ky.) Courier-Journal and the Baltimore Sun. Of course, I figured it could be a million different things, from an Internet connection problem to an ad-serving issue to the hamsters not spinning their wheels fast enough to power the internets.
