Gift ideas never out of season

January 7, 2002

For some people, Christmas is the time of year that

most people never want to end. More importantly, Christmas

isn't over until you've gotten every item on your wish

list.

At first, I thought I had received everything I wanted.

Then I opened some junk e-mail and looked through a

few catalogs to realize all the things I didn't have.

You guessed it ... I'm still here

December 24, 2001

I'm running out of ideas for different welcome columns. It seems as if I write more welcome columns than actual columns about computers or humor or computer humor or large chameleons.

Crazy survey comments

Hey Ben, I think you might be a little crazy, :) Did you ride the short schoolbus when you went to school? :)

I think this Bed Woods person is the one who's crazy. I mean, who would make such a survey?!

Should I really worry about the black helicopters flying over Utah?

Everyone is crazy but thee and me, and thee more than me.

People are crazy, but that's nothing new

October 22, 2001

Finally, after what seems like 54 years, I've had time to compile the results of the crazy survey. I'm sure you are probably thinking, "What crazy survey?" Rest assured, there was one, and a few people even participated. There were over 100, so I may end up using the first 100 answers if I ever start my own Family Feud game show.

Just another day at the office

October 15, 2001

I haven't written too much lately about technical support issues, so I decided I would tell you a little bit about a normal day here at the office.

First off, I think I have the second-biggest office in the place, behind the publisher. But that's only because I used to share an office with my boss, and he's not here anymore. There are four computers (two G4s, an iMac and a PC), six monitors and six chairs. I try not to use them all at once, but sometimes, I can't help myself, especially during puppet shows.

Rush rocks ... the band, of course

July 12, 2004

I thought I had found some sort of glitch in the space-time continuum. One of the local rock stations plays songs from the band Rush as often as any classic or even current band. But after a trip to Chicago a week ago, where I managed to find myself in the middle of a Rush block one day and not being able to change the channel while "Tom Sawyer" played the next, I realized I wasn't alone.

Discuss, don't fight online

July 19, 2004

Some of you probably troll message boards from time to time, noticing how users will get hopping mad because a random person called them, or their favorite team, a bad name. If you continue reading the thread, you will probably notice other users taking both sides, and if you visit the same message board a few months later, there will surely be a similar thread with different people involved.

Grandparents

March 19, 1999

There are at least 56,828 things to do during spring break. If you have a credit card, or know how to use a stolen one, the number grows exponentially. But there is one activity that rarely gets a lot of hype this time of year.

Some people live a paper airplane's throw away from relatives, but most do not. I'm also betting days, fortnights, maybe even months have passed since your last family visit.

Making great bagels takes patience and Phil Collins

March 19, 2001

I'm not ashamed to say I like to cook. I rarely do cook, though, because I never seem to have enough time, or enough energy, or the dog ate my homework.

Some of the stuff I cook, I make up as I go. Other things I've borrowed from my mom, and the rest I pull out of my cookbook. I never thought of looking up recipes on the Web, because if I had time to do that, why wouldn't I just pull a recipe out of the cookbook?
