Save money at the gas pump

September 10, 2005

I thought that maybe fewer people would drive since gas seems to be more expensive than an average vehicle. But I'm still waiting in traffic all over the place, on the way to and from work. Hasn't it occurred to anyone that we are all paying close to twice as much for gasoline as we did a year ago? Wouldn't they be interested in knowing how to conserve their fuel?

New Orleans cleanup moving slow, needs help

September 1, 2005

If you are curious as to how you can get involved with the New Orleans disaster, there are plenty of ways to answer the call to action.

Depending on where you live, if you have an extra room or two for displaced residents, MoveOn has launched a Hurricane Housing website. This provides a way to for those generous enough to connect with people who have lost many (if not all) of their possessions.

Men vs. women: Who's smarter?

August 29, 2005

This question is easy. Of course, women are smarter. Or wait, maybe it's men. Or maybe it's neither.

If you listen to psychologists Paul Irwing and Richard Lynn, you might think men are more intelligent than women by about five IQ points on average. The study is due to be published in the British Journal of Psychology.

Authorities getting faster at catching hackers

August 27, 2005

More than 10 years ago, if someone unleashed a computer virus, there was close to zero chance at catching the criminal. Five years ago, the cops might catch up with the hacker, eventually, after months or years of searching.

July 26, 2004

By now you've heard, but to reiterate, George Lucas announced that "Revenge of the Sith" will be the title of the third and last movie of the prequel series.

Of course, we still have until May 19 until the movie comes out, but hey, it has a title, so Star Wars fans everywhere are rejoicing. What, you're not a Star Wars fan? Are you sure you really even exist?

Book review: "Moon in Gemini" by Brandon Bennett

August 29, 2006

I try to read as much as possible, so I thought I could pass along reviews about good books that I have been reading. Here's the first!

What would it feel like to be able to freely make decisions, without the effects of remorse?

Holiday sweaters, just in time for Christmas

December 23, 2007

If you aren't happy with the selection of holiday sweaters that you have seen this year in the stores, you have a few options. One would be to just wear the same ridiculously tacky one that you wore last year. The other idea would be to make your own at We Hate Sheep. We Love Holiday Sweaters.. Make sure you accessorize as much as you can because the holidays come only once a year! You can also choose to window shop and peruse all of the previously made gorgeous sweaters. I'm wearing mine right now!

Book review: 'The Soul of a New Machine' by Tracy Kidder

March 1, 2007

Being an author (occasionally) and having book events (rarer than occasionally), people often recommend other books or authors I should read. Usually the books pertain to what I have written about (technology) or possibly the style in which I attempt to write (sarcastic humor?).

Internet popup ads taking over

September 21, 2004

Hopefully by accessing this page, your screen hasn't been barraged by Internet popup ads. Many sites have popups that supposedly give you free gift certificates or allow you to download spyware or some other random thing. First, do people intentionally click on these things? And secondly, does their computer explode when they do?
