Baker & Taylor, a book distributor with service centers located throughout the United States, is now listing "The Developers" for retail.
For over 176 years, Baker & Taylor has been providing quality information and entertainment services. The company is a worldwide distributor of books, video, music and games.
I'm not a big fan of sound on websites, but talking heads with sound? OK, now you have my attention. SitePal apparently delivers just that, with somewhat freakish characters that appear to be saying what is actually being said. As the site says, for as little as $9.95 a month, you can have a SitePal on YOUR very own site. It appears the company also makes custom Pals, as I found one for Santa Claus.
Apparently, they (meaning the New Oxford American Dictionary) name a word of the year every year. This year, the winner is "podcast," which of course is what a pea plant wears after breaking its stem. Rootkit and lifehack finished behind podcast in the voting, although I'm still not sure who voted. Read more about it on BBC News.
Katie Richardson of Buzz Magazine in Champaign, Ill., compares "The Developers" to a couple of classic books in her recent review of the novel.
"This is a must for anyone who really dug "1984" or "Brave New World" but also likes to surf the net from time to time, preferably with the idea in the back of your head that Big Brother could be watching," Richardson wrote.
It's bad enough when you can't win a simple game of cards with your family. But when you're a poker champion and have to play against multiple bots colluding against you, well, it's time to take up something else, maybe shuffleboard.
This is a couple of days late, but after waiting and realizing the New Albany, Ind., News-Tribune wasn't going to put the feature article about me online, I decided to type it myself. One thing I've become accustomed to while working with computers is that they rarely show emotion. I almost said they never show emotion, but my computer got mad and wouldn't let me type that. Overall, however, computers are nice in that they don't attempt to influence you by giving you puppy-dog eyes. The computer usually lets you do what you want to do, or it closes the program and shuts down. But rarely does it laugh, at least in a way that you can see it.
As I agonize about writing this opening paragraph,
I wonder what type of people read this column. I mean,

One of the toughest things I have found as a new novelist is finding objective reviews. It seems that most friends and family members, as truthful as they may be, have insider information that makes it difficult to be unbiased. While I have received a few great reviews from people I did not know, I haven't received a large amount of bad ones. Which might be good, but then again, who wants to review a bad book?
If you have seen The Developers, maybe you passed over the copyright page, which contains random stuff that every book has. The ISBN is listed, as well as the publisher and a note that explains the book is fiction. Also nestled into this page is a little note that says "To help debug future versions of this book, please send corrections and comments to info@benwoods.com."
Luckily, some people have read this and have sent me minor errors they spotted in the book. I will list them here.
