Kentucky author book signing Dec. 3 at Portland Museum

This Sunday (1-4:30 pm Dec. 4) I will join a number of Kentucky authors in signing books at the Portland Museum Holiday Crafts Sale. The museum is located at 2308 Portland Ave., 40212.

Honestly, I have no clue what type of stuff will be there. The flyer shows authentic Kentucky crafts, books, jewelry, prints, ceramics, greenery, etc. It sounds sort of like a cross between the flea market at the fairgrounds, the St. James Art Fair and a book signing event. Surely someone there will be interested in "The Developers," right?

'The Developers' available at Joseph-Beth

Add Joseph-Beth Booksellers in Lexington, Ky., to the growing number of bookstores that is carrying the tech-humor fiction novel, "The Developers." The store is located at 161 Lexington Green Circle, Suite B1, in Lexington and can be found online at www.josephbeth.com.

Friendster announces new features

If you haven't been to Friendster lately, it might be time to go back and check it out. Released in September, Friendster 2.0 appears to be not only leading the way with online social networking, but it may also be replacing Internet dating websites.

There are a fair amount of improvements with the new Friendster, including the following:

- FriendTracker: Real-time updates about your friends' information

- Customizable Profile: Ability to use HTML or CSS for your profile

Three new locations in three different states now carrying 'The Developers'

Borders stores in Champaign, Ill., Evansville, Ind., and Poor Richard's Books in Frankfort, Ky., are now selling "The Developers." Well, I should say I'm assuming they are selling the books, as long as the shipments made it there and they aren't sitting in the back of the store somewhere.

Yes, you heard that right. Everything is not on the web. On top of that, I have actual proof that everything is not on the web. Check out notontheweb.com. The page is on the web, but it just goes to show that not everything is on the web. I realize this is a bit of logic problem, but just deal with it!

ISP snooping to become a reality?

In another move toward 1984, Congress continues to endorse ISP snooping, which could attempt to keep tabs on everyone's online activities.

As reported on CNET, government officials are working toward determining how best to aid investigations into child pornography on the Internet. Allowing ISP snooping, however, would leave open the possibility of the government to track everyone's information.

I'm at my best when I'm in sync with what's random

Like most people (I hope), I spend a lot of time thinking. My best thinking moments by far are when I'm in the shower in the morning, just after a nap and anytime I'm at Wal-Mart.

First appearance on the radio Friday morning

If you can get to a radio at 8 a.m. Friday morning, be sure to tune into 99.7 WDJX in Louisville. I will be on with Kelly K. talking briefly about "The Developers" and Sunday's book signing at Carmichael's on Frankfort Ave.

Kelly K graduated from Purdue, as I did myself, so we're going to turn Louisville briefly into Boilermaker country.

OK, maybe it will last like 41 seconds, but that's better than nothing.

New Apple stuff ... there's a lot of it

Apple seems to have released enough stuff in October that it's hard to put my finger on what to highlight. There's the iPod with larger capacities and video capabilities, iTunes 6 (a free download for Mac and PC), the new iMac G5, the list goes on. Don't let DoS attacks send you to the circus

Sometimes Web sites don't work. They just don't. There are plenty of reasons, including &quot the sun was in my eyes,&quot why a particular site will not work. It's definitely frustrating when you know other sites are working, except the one you want to go to, The Original World Famous Home Appliance Shooting Page, just won't boot.
