There's a lot of hatin' for Valentine's Day

February 14, 2006

If you're one of the people who don't like Valentine's Day, or you don't even acknowledge the existence of it, there's additional earth-shattering news you may want to know.

It seems like you might be in the majority now.

There are a fair amount of sites on the web blasting Valentine's Day, starting with Uncyclopedia. Unfortunately, I don't have time to give other sites because I have to try to find all of them.

Yahoo again blamed for Chinese citizen's jail time

February 12, 2006

If you're using Yahoo for email or any type of service and you want to criticize the Chinese government, you may want to think twice about it.

London-based Reporters Without Borders said recently that Yahoo gave key information to jail southwest China's Li Zhi for subversion in 2003, after he posted comments about official corruption.

TV appearance Sunday

February 10, 2006

For those of you who are unfortunate enough to be up ridiculously early Sunday morning, I will be appearing on WHAS-11 in Louisville, Ky., sometime around 7:10 a.m. to discuss "The Developers." I'm not sure what I'll say about it, but maybe I'll juggle, since it's silly to juggle while on the radio.

Google Fight is interesting, at least for 17 seconds

February 9, 2006

Everyone these days is interested in whether or not their sites are listed in Google. OK, maybe it's just me, a handful of companies and search engine optimization people. Nevertheless, there's a simple way to find out how search keywords compare to one another. At Google Fight, you have the ability to compare two sets of search terms and see which one has more results.

First appearance on the radio Friday morning

February 7, 2006

If you can get to a radio at 8 a.m. Friday morning, be sure to tune into 99.7 WDJX in Louisville. I will be on with Kelly K. talking briefly about "The Developers" and Sunday's book signing at Carmichael's on Frankfort Ave.

Kelly K graduated from Purdue, as I did myself, so we're going to turn Louisville briefly into Boilermaker country.

OK, maybe it will last like 41 seconds, but that's better than nothing.

Free phone for your computer?

September 21, 2007

A large portion of people, including me, have tossed away a home land line in favor of just using a cell phone. Of course, that can be problematic on occasion, especially if your cell phone service is bad.

There might a remedy available, even without going through on of your local telecom companies. Gizmo (not to be confused with the little guy on "Gremlins" touts itself as a free phone for your computer.

Big Baltimore book events at the end of September

September 23, 2008

I have two more book appearances this month, both during the last full weekend in September. I'll be at both the Baltimore Book Festival and Baltimore Comic-Con.

BEA an interesting experience

June 7, 2007

My trip to New York during the first weekend in June was short, but overall, it was extremely productive.

I attended Book Expo America for a number of reasons, the top one being to find an agent for my new project, "Polos to Ties." I communicated with a number of agents, some beforehand on the BEA's social networking site. The biggest mistake I made was not attempting to schedule appointments with agents beforehand. But considering that I haven't completely finished the manuscript, maybe that wasn't such a big deal.

Cards turning magical run into reality

April 1, 2005

(We interrupt this regularly scheduled program to give you information about the only important thing going on this weekend ... the Louisville Cardinals in the Final Four)

University of Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino is currently in the process of pulling off the greatest magic trick of all time.

August 21, 2010

August 21 is National Spumoni Day. Did you know that? I seriously doubt it. But who cares? It's an entire day to celebrate Spumoni! If you don't know what Spumoni is, check out the Wikipedia page. Better yet, let me explain why you should care about Spumoni in the first place.
