Save money at the gas pump

September 10, 2005

I thought that maybe fewer people would drive since gas seems to be more expensive than an average vehicle. But I'm still waiting in traffic all over the place, on the way to and from work. Hasn't it occurred to anyone that we are all paying close to twice as much for gasoline as we did a year ago? Wouldn't they be interested in knowing how to conserve their fuel?

New Orleans cleanup moving slow, needs help

September 1, 2005

If you are curious as to how you can get involved with the New Orleans disaster, there are plenty of ways to answer the call to action.

Depending on where you live, if you have an extra room or two for displaced residents, MoveOn has launched a Hurricane Housing website. This provides a way to for those generous enough to connect with people who have lost many (if not all) of their possessions.

Men vs. women: Who's smarter?

August 29, 2005

This question is easy. Of course, women are smarter. Or wait, maybe it's men. Or maybe it's neither.

If you listen to psychologists Paul Irwing and Richard Lynn, you might think men are more intelligent than women by about five IQ points on average. The study is due to be published in the British Journal of Psychology.

Authorities getting faster at catching hackers

August 27, 2005

More than 10 years ago, if someone unleashed a computer virus, there was close to zero chance at catching the criminal. Five years ago, the cops might catch up with the hacker, eventually, after months or years of searching.

Book review: "Catch-22" by Joseph Heller

September 20, 2008

Writing a review for Catch-22 by Joseph Heller is sort of Catch-22. If I don't tell you enough about it, you probably won't be interested in the book. But if I tell you too much, you won't have to read it because you'll already know what it's about.

But I suppose I should try.

The technique of technology

February 19, 2009

While I admit to being a little hesitant at reading such a grandiose PDF as presented from The technological society by Jacques Ellul, I found a bounty of words and phrases (some that I agreed with, some that I didn't) of which I made note. I'll try to make comments about as many as possible, although an entire Internet might not be enough room to give my thoughts about this text.

Choose words wisely

July 23, 1999

Bad things happen.

There's nothing anyone can do; they just happen. This past week, we saw our fair share of incidents. Nationally, a man whose life has been in a continual spotlight died in a plane crash. Locally, a young woman was found dead after being missing since July 4.

Tragedies strike at all times, mostly when least expected. There are numerous levels of tragedies, yet they all come back to one thing — loss. Losing something or someone can be devastating. But eventually, the void becomes a part of you, while you try fervently to concentrate on other things.

The Disney World Experience, Part 1 - Planning

August 29, 2018

Our family just returned from Walt Disney World. While there are more comprehensive blogs and posts regarding WDW, I thought it might be worthwhile to include some of our experiences here. I'll try to keep them succinct, although I may go off on tangents, so be prepared!

New job

September 5, 2007

If you are wondering why I haven't been updating my site much lately, then you I have two things to tell you:

1. Go to a different website! There are plenty of other things on the Internet.

2. I haven't updated much because I just started a new job at Naviance in Washington, D.C.
