There's a lot of hatin' for Valentine's Day

February 14, 2006

If you're one of the people who don't like Valentine's Day, or you don't even acknowledge the existence of it, there's additional earth-shattering news you may want to know.

It seems like you might be in the majority now.

There are a fair amount of sites on the web blasting Valentine's Day, starting with Uncyclopedia. Unfortunately, I don't have time to give other sites because I have to try to find all of them.

Yahoo again blamed for Chinese citizen's jail time

February 12, 2006

If you're using Yahoo for email or any type of service and you want to criticize the Chinese government, you may want to think twice about it.

London-based Reporters Without Borders said recently that Yahoo gave key information to jail southwest China's Li Zhi for subversion in 2003, after he posted comments about official corruption.

TV appearance Sunday

February 10, 2006

For those of you who are unfortunate enough to be up ridiculously early Sunday morning, I will be appearing on WHAS-11 in Louisville, Ky., sometime around 7:10 a.m. to discuss "The Developers." I'm not sure what I'll say about it, but maybe I'll juggle, since it's silly to juggle while on the radio.

Google Fight is interesting, at least for 17 seconds

February 9, 2006

Everyone these days is interested in whether or not their sites are listed in Google. OK, maybe it's just me, a handful of companies and search engine optimization people. Nevertheless, there's a simple way to find out how search keywords compare to one another. At Google Fight, you have the ability to compare two sets of search terms and see which one has more results.

First appearance on the radio Friday morning

February 7, 2006

If you can get to a radio at 8 a.m. Friday morning, be sure to tune into 99.7 WDJX in Louisville. I will be on with Kelly K. talking briefly about "The Developers" and Sunday's book signing at Carmichael's on Frankfort Ave.

Kelly K graduated from Purdue, as I did myself, so we're going to turn Louisville briefly into Boilermaker country.

OK, maybe it will last like 41 seconds, but that's better than nothing.

Hello book industry ... are you concerned with the environment?

July 28, 2008

This is probably one of the strangest articles I've ever written, because it pertains to me communicating with a bunch of people and finding out hardly any information. The bad part, however, is the lack of cooperation bodes badly not just for the few individuals I contacted, but the entire book industry.

Home(page) Improvement

August 28, 2000

I'm not going to lie, I'm short on time this week because, well, I'm on vacation. But that doesn't mean I shouldn't give all six of you something to ponder for at least the next eight minutes.

It's March, which means it's time for basketball

March 6, 2008

You'll notice that I haven't been writing much, for a few good reasons. At work, we've been pretty busy, and we just moved into a different office. In my spare time, I've been devoting most of my time sending out book queries and proposals and also working on my girlfriend's school's website.

But let's face it: The important thing happening right now is men's college basketball. Who will win their conference tournaments? Which teams will make it to the Big Dance? What team will win it all?

There are two important links you need at this stage:

Accolades from the first grade

February 27, 2020
Letter from first grade

Lily, my 6-year-old daughter, wanted to bring in copies of The Special Delivery for her friends at school. Not only does it appear that they enjoyed the gift, but they took a bit of class time to say what they enjoyed the most!

Here is the text:

Dear Mr. Woods,

If you cannot believe your email, at least believe this

October 1, 2004

There's a lot of talk about truth going around these days. Not that it is any different than any other period of mankind's history, at least after truth was invented. It's mildly interesting to imagine how truth started.

"Me kill buffalo! Me eat buffalo!"

"No, me kill buffalo! You don't eat buffalo!"

"No, me kill buffalo!"

This surely ended with one caveman eating the buffalo, and the other grabbing a Happy Meal at McDonald's.
