Digg picks up RIAA story

February 4, 2007

I received a fair share of emails regarding my recent story about the RIAA and the price of CDs. I thought maybe it was spam, until I found out that the story was posted on Digg.

Not only that, but I received a handful of emails about my article. I'm glad my writing spurned conversation ... I wonder where that will leave the RIAA?

Cell phone all you need to compare prices

February 1, 2007

During a normal week, I probably receive circulars from 15 different grocery stores, which I assume are in my area. I have visited many of them; others are a little too far out of my way; and still others are no where to be found. One reason I've tried a few of them is to compare prices. More often than not, there are good enough sales to warrant specific trips. Although, sometimes that backfires, as was the case in a recent trip to SuperFresh.

And you thought the Flowbee was bad ...

January 31, 2007

You are familiar enough with the most recent technological innovations of the 21st century. But before we get too carried away with time travel, it's worthwhile to sit back and relive some of those bad ideas.

You know, just in case you are thinking of the next great invention, and it has already flopped.

Names aren't really like snowflakes anymore

January 28, 2007

They say that every person is different, and individuality is what makes everyone so special. Unfortunately, that's not usually true with our actual names, regardless of how unique and special your name might seem.

Faking moon landings

January 23, 2007

This article is the first in a new series, called IM tellin'. The articles contain nothing more than instant-message banter between myself and any one of my friends or random people. Think of it as water-cooler talk, only a bit more sophisticated than talking about the weather.

Check the Web for house remodeling tips

August 27, 2001

One of my friends just bought a house. He isn't the first person I've ever known to buy a house, and I doubt he'll be the last. But he bought a house, and someone suggested I write a column about it, so here it is.

Government ordered to save emails

November 15, 2007

Remember that email you sent to the random senator about spending money to build igloos in the desert? The bad news is that I don't think the interest groups can raise the $200 million you need for research funds. The good news is that the email could be read again 60 years from now and will never be deleted.

Three new locations in three different states now carrying 'The Developers'

November 8, 2005

Borders stores in Champaign, Ill., Evansville, Ind., and Poor Richard's Books in Frankfort, Ky., are now selling "The Developers." Well, I should say I'm assuming they are selling the books, as long as the shipments made it there and they aren't sitting in the back of the store somewhere.

If you happen to live in one of these areas and are ready to read the book, here's the information you need:

Champaign (Ill.) Borders Bookstore

802 West Town Center Boulevard

Champaign, IL 61822

Plagarism wasn't just invented yesterday

June 19, 2006

I thought about writing an article about plagarism, then I decided I would first see if I could copy it from someone else.

HA! That was supposed to be funny ... or maybe just sad.

There is a recent report from the BBC saying that the Internet has made copying sources easier. Furthermore, the professor quoted in the story says that the new generation of students see nothing wrong with copying material found online.

Internet ties Nelly, becomes No. 1

February 28, 2005

If you're a little behind and missed it (like me), CNN recently released its list of the top 25 innovations of the past 25 years. The Internet finished first, barely beating out other top innovations like Velcro and the automatic lollipop turner.
