This just in ... everything on the Internet is NOT TRUE!

December 9, 2007

Have you ever used a search engine to find medical advice? I have plenty of times. I'm not sure too many people who can read this article haven't used it, whether it be for checking flu symptoms or making sure you don't have the Bubonic Plague.

Book review: "If on a Winter's Night a Traveler"

December 1, 2007

I've held off writing this review for nearly a month now, for a couple of reasons. First, I didn't finish the last few pages until the other day, even though I had read nearly the entire book more than a month ago. Second, I really didn't know how to rate this book. And unfortunately, I still don't.

Articles appearing on new website

November 29, 2007

I recently found a new blogging site looking for featured columnists. I figured that it couldn't hurt to perhaps add my articles to the site, and they were gracious enough to allow it. Now, a majority of my writing can be found on EnterTo Entertainment. Overall, I'm not sure what this will be worth, but the way I see it, I don't think it can hurt. More exposure can't be bad, right?

Finished! Well, not really

November 28, 2007

I finally completed the last chapter of "Polos to Ties." I wish I could say that I'm ready to publish, but I have plenty of cleanup left to do. Right now, I'm sending queries and proposals to literary agencies, hoping that one of them will push to the major publishing houses. I've had interest, but I still haven't inked a deal just yet.

Also, I'm in the process of selecting an editor or two to help refine my novel. I'll post more details when I announce my picks.

Are those computers actually being recycled?

November 20, 2007

You've probably seen the signs hanging around your place of business, or maybe you've seen ads in the newspaper promoting a way to get rid of your old computer. "Donate your computer to a third-world school!" or "We recycle your old monitors!" Those seem like noble ideas, but they also beg the question: What is actually being done with your trash?

Not sure how you did it, but you found my site

June 27, 2004

Welcome to BenWoods.com! I decided that since my readership was up to about 24 people, I should devote an entire Web site to it. So here it is!

All of my columns published during the last four years should be available here. If not, I need to check the lost and found because it's possible one or two ran away. A key ingredient to the current site is the newest survey, the Ultimate Crazy Survey. It's the best of the ones I've made so far, to check it out when you have time.

Facebook changes terms of service ... and apparently this is big news

February 18, 2009

It's apparent how much of a stronghold social networking has on U.S. society when a story about Facebook changing its terms of service appears as the main story on baltimoresun.com. That would be equivalent to seeing a story about a credit card company changing the fine print in its terms and conditions, or your favorite cereal changing the order of ingredients on its new packaging.

XMN coming to a town near you

February 12, 2001

I was really surprised how good the ratings were for the first week of the XFL.

Online unreality

April 3, 2009

The distinction between reality and not reality has intrigued society for thousands of years. When I say society, though, I suppose I'm discussing only those individuals who actually want to discern the difference between the two, since it is readily apparent that a great deal of people rather enjoy the blur between the two worlds. In the past, "unreality" could be considered anything from a dream sequence to joining a secret cult to playing/cheering for your favorite sports team. However, with technology at the helm, we have another life available: one that is virtual.

... and we're back

January 4, 2020

I've finally launched the new BenWoods.com. Yes, it looks a lot like the old one. I upgraded to Drupal 8 (from Drupal 7). I managed to go all of 2019 without writing anything on this site. I hope to write a little more, especially as I launch a new book in the upcoming months. Thanks for reading!
