Microsoft Office 2007 is missing one minor annoyance, er, ingredient that everyone commonly refers to as "Clippy." Yes folks, I'm talking about the talking paper clip, which ranks up there with file folders and the cubicle as the greatest workplace inventions in the history of ... um ... the workplace.
Why is clipping disappearing faster than an O.J. Simpson book deal? AppScript recently interviewed Jensen Harris, who is Office's Group Program Manager, to get to the bottom of this obvious oversight.
It appears that Clippy was, indeed, removed ON PURPOSE. For those of you who use XP, you know that you can easy turn off Clippy. He was still there, somewhere, possibly looking for those scandalous pictures tucked away in a hidden directory. Nevertheless, Clippy won't even be able to do that anymore.
As a salute to Clippy, I recently purchased 1,000 paper clips from Staples. OK, so they were on sale, but I'm working on building my own Clippy that I can use rummaging through papers stored in file folders. I'm not sure how it will work, but I always remember the departed, especially if they are made out of metal.
