Bendable concrete coming soon to a shop near you

May 9, 2005

Just when you thought you understood something as simple as concrete, it has now been changed.

Researchers at the University of Michigan have developed bendable concrete, which according to an article on the university's news service, is 500 times more resistant to cracking and 40 percent lighter in weight.

One of the first tests on the docket for the new concrete will be retrofiting a section of a Michigan bridge over an interstate. This new material could potentially help decrease the number of potholes formed from harsh weather and temperature changes. Of course, it'll also just be interesting to see bendable concrete and possibly make shoes out of it.
