I guess it's about time for an update

Feb 5, 2021

I certainly had High Hopes for writing more on this website last year. I suppose it's easiest to blame it on the pandemic, but that wouldn't be completely accurate.

From a work perspective, I've spent a good portion of the last decade working either at home or in an "offsite" office. Maybe it was a little trying to work while ensuring that all three kids were doing virtual learning in the spring. The fall and winter have been a lot better because they are on campus most days. Everyone is being as safe as humanly possible.

Meanwhile, outside of work, I've been busy with the Caimans at Work series. I'm in the process of launching the second book in the picture book series, but I've also been writing other stories for Raymond and Damon, both long and short. I have to admit that I'm still mystified why I cannot get anyone from the National Aquarium to answer my messages, but considering that the place was closed due to covid and apparently the place was shut down for a time because they weren't even following the required safety protocols, it seems as if they have bigger problems on their hands.

Whenever we could get outside, our family has spent a lot of time playing kickball and a new game we made up called Ball Tag. The main version of the game involves hitting a ball like a volleyball at runners who run back and forth in a small area. There's also a version called Soccer Ball Tag where we kick the ball instead of hit it. Various players have various rules to make it semi-even for all involved. For example, I have to hit the ball backward between my legs, but Clara is allowed to throw it.

My other activities have been growing lettuce, sorting baseball cards and watching "Quantum Leap." These all seem to be pretty good relaxation techniques, although it has been amazing watching the price of cards skyrocket. I hope to maybe write a bit more about my card endeavors here since that seems like something that people are enjoying online these days.

Regardless, let's hope that I can at least write something on here more than a handful of times a year! I'm also hoping to get my kids more involved at writing - I have a separate domain for them to be used, but they haven't been too interested yet.
