Internet popup ads taking over
September 21, 2004 - Hopefully by accessing this page, your screen hasn't been barraged by Internet popup ads. Many sites have popups that supposedly give you free gift certificates or allow you to download spyware or some other random thing. First, do people intentionally click on these things? And secondly, does their computer explode when they do?
Then again, in advertising, sometimes a visual representation is just as effective. I'm just not a big fan of the 345-popup-windows-at-a-time effect. In the end, the Good Advice Committee decided not to ban popups, 4-1. Click here to read the final opinions.
